As the final touches of the movie
are almost done, things are winding down a bit. So I finally got
the time to add these matte
paintings I did for the new music video of
God Forbid's, Chains of Humanity, soon to be on MTV early
spring. I'll post a video of it here when/if possible.
Check out God Forbid's
website if you're into heavy rock! The video will be in 720p HD,
directed by Eric Shamlin of Radium, San Francisco.
Happy Holidays all!

Work at Luma's been pretty cool, so many
awesome people there from the people that work with me in my room, to
the producers and vfx super! After much toil and hardwork from
the artists at Luma, the trailer finally came out today on an Internet
Exclusive from Yahoo Pictures. There's even a small introduction
from director Len Wiseman attached in the front of this trailer.
The premiere of
this theatrical trailer will be in front of the movie Doom, coming out tomarrow, jammed
pack with action! I am honored to be able to work on some of the
shots on this trailer, everyone did such an awesome job on it.
To download it,
head to Yahoo
Movies Here
Alternatively if
that's jammed, you can download it from my website here
It's a 30mb file,
quicktime compressed. I am now also listed in IMDB.com, the first movie credit and the
first David Luong,
fun!
'Till next time, deadline for this movie awfully close!

Now Working at Luma Pictures, Inc. !

I'd like to thank Karen Malach,
Jeannine Roussel and Fred Cline from Disney Toon Studios for giving me
a chance to see the great work they do as a Vis-Dev artist and for me
to work on such an amazing project, even for a short freelance
time. It was a blast!
After Disney fun, I was signed on to work full time at Luma Pictures in Santa Monica
as a
Compositor, growing later to perhaps doing some matte paintings and FX
work too. Space was very limited and Luma is ramping up for Underworld
2 now after finishing The
Cave, so it will be even more
packed in the weeks coming. We will be moving to a bigger new
building sometime in November to Venice to accomodate the growing
studio.
I've been "thrown in the fire" as Ian and I has so put it (the
VFX Producer) and I'm learning a whole lot, while meeting great new co
workers both funny and knowledgeable in their field. Thanks to
Ian, for setting me up at Luma ^^ It's great to be a part of the
team here.
I've been crazy busy since working at Luma, while still juggling
the indie projects that I have been helping out with, hopefully they
will all done with the same quality I and the directors expect!
10 hour work days and 4 hours commute round trip each day leave me not
much time anymore =(
Now to move closer to west LA and get a new car...!

Academy Art University
Picks TNES for :30 TV Spot!

added | thursday August 11, 2005

It's to crazy to be seeing my work
on TV soon! The Neverending Story: The Renewal, my super short film I
did before graduating has been chosen by the On Air Advertising
department. Though there's no mention of my name, oh well =\ they
changed the music and edited it to 30 seconds, then made the ending
text kinda cheesy but still it's TV air time I guess hehe!
The on air editor
just sent me the final version to be aired next week nationally.
Exciting none the less!

Pixar Studios: Visiting
Kamal Mistry!
|
added | monday june 3rd, 2005
12:20am pst |
|
Today myself, Dean ( a student also
in
Particles 2 class) and a guest (
Mohan!) got to visit Kamal Mistry, my Particles 2 teacher at Pixar!
It was like Disneyland,
all fun in a geeky way, without the rides and
the silly costume characters. Only way to get in is to know someone! It
was cool knowing a Pixar teacher nice enough to give us a tour and buy
us icecream! Thanks Kamal =0
Coming in, the security
guy was all nice, but it was hard for him to
get Mo's full name correctly for the visitor badge. Then we were let
through the gated door, then we had to avoid Steve Job's parking spot
(which we failed to find, though Mo think it's the dirty Prius!) So we
parked in awe as people left their windows down in full safety of Pixar
Facility. Into the main building we go, and it was full of Incredibles
artwork all over, with the receptionist to our left, and the
lounge/tiny gift shop to right. Further up right is the mail room , and
further left is the cool 5-6 doller cafeteria with free drinks woot!
We got our lunch and
headed outside to the breezy and nice sunny grassy
area and ate. Then Kamal gave us a tour of the place and into some
"sekret" places like his office, and fellow artists, the crazy 4000 CPU
rendernode, and into the awesome digital theater where Pixar employees
see free advanced screenings of big movies. So cool! Then back outside
we go after an hour or two of the fun and happy workplace that is Pixar!
Overall an awesome,
calm,
and genius place to work at, hopefully some day we'll be back to visit
it! Pictures of the place can be seen at my message
board thread here

Graduation &
Updated Large Demo Reel
|
added | monday may 30, 2005
10:45pm pst |
|
My 4 year BFA term has ended!
Graduation went pretty smoothly and nicely presented by the AAU, and it
was time to say goodbye to all of my fellow artists that I have worked
and endured with through the years. Thanks to everyone that have
helped me on my projects (Cherri, Chris, Eloisa, Ron, Isaac), and my
compositing teachers Aaron Muszalski, and Catherine Tate for allowing
me creative freedom and expression of style.
Spring Show 2005
this year went well, my first time entering, and last time. I was
nominated for two awards: Best Digital Matte Painting, and Best Visual
Effects. I managed to nab the Matte Painting award for Temple of
Knowledge, but lost the Best VFX award for The Neverending Story: The
Renewal and was a finalist. One of two awards, still sounds good
to me! Winners received a 256mb Flash Drive, and a Siggraph ticket.
The new demo reel
has been uploaded, with full breakdowns of matte paintings and
bluescreen/greenscreen wipes, 5 projects, 3 minutes. You can
download it at the Demo Reel section here.
And now onwards,
for the search of that job every graduate is waiting for, hopefully it
will be good, and fast coming (Luma Pictures and Disney Toon Studios in
negotiations though!).
I will upload my
super short film, The Neverending Story: The Renewal in the coming days
as well.

10 Second MEGA Fast
Demo Reel
|
added | sunday may 8, 2005
9:02pm pst
|
|
As my term at AAU comes to an end, the
faculty asked us to cut a 10 second demo reel for Spring Show VIP and
potential employers coming to our school. It was quite fun trying
to edit all of my best shots into this reel, it goes by LIGHTNING fast,
but I think it conveys enough to not lose the audience.
Edited to "It's
the End of the World" by REM, because the song is just so hectic and
crazy, like this 10 second demo reel idea! Cramming in about 20 or so
shots was a fun task, and even more fun for those who watch it (hope
you aren't seizure prone). If not, relax, and frame by frame it
to see all the hard work put into those projects!
I'll probably cut
a full reel complete with breakdowns with my new projects from this
semester later in the future, but for now, this will do. Download
below, and enjoy! (use looping video for maximum pleasure!) and come
back here for more complete videos of the projects in this reel!

GKR Internship...?
|
added | thursday february 10, 2005
12:25pm pst |
|
**Edit Update:
5.8.2005--I got the interview at GKR as an FX TD, talked to John Vegher
there, cool guy, but then later found out they didn't need anymore
people for the movie, oh well one door close, more will open up!**
Woot! The Academy Career
Services just
called me last friday and left a message on my voicemail saying I was
selected as one of the candidates for an internship at Giant Killer
Robots doing Particles/Fluid animation! They are currently
working on Fantastic Four as I hear.
It's weird,
because I promoted the new Marvel movie down below a few weeks ago, and
the thought of working on this summer blockbuster is really exciting!
Fingers crossed =0

|
The new Fantastic
Four movie trailer. It looks pretty cool so far! Still thinking
it won't be as good as the X-Men series or Spider Man 2 yet, but we'll
see! the VFX on the Thing reminds me of the same car crushing scene
Hell Boy did in their trailer as well.... More of Dr. Doom pls
YAR!.
